Spring 2012 Trend Tip: Natural Elements

Spring/Summer 2012 is one of my favorite seasons in years. The colors are bright, the layers are soft, and almost anything goes. Through the explosion of color, shape, and texture a few major trends definitely began to stand out. One of the coolest trends in footwear is Natural Elements being added to all different styles of shoe.

Elie Tahari
Espadrilles are a popular choice every year but they are especially hot right now. I also like the way the leather wraps the foot on this one, it creates a subtle and casual bohemian appeal.

DVF (Diane Von Furstenberg)
An espadrille that is a little bit lower in terms of the heel but still high in style is a sure bet for running around town all summer. The pop of orange patent is very on trend for the season as well, and remember you don't have to match the color.

Pour La Victoire
This shoe has only been here a few days and they are almost gone. The snake texture is gorgeous and paired with this taupe color it is very neutral. This shoe also comes in a really pretty sea-foam color.

Bettye Muller
This one has several natural elements and all together they are beautiful. Raffia and cork are combined with white patent leather to create a very modern and sophisticated take on the summer spectator shoe.

Stuart Weitzman
Feathers! This simple sandal takes a whimsical and edgy turn when you add feathers to the heel and toe. In addition to being stunning this shoe supports a good cause. The proceeds from the "Stuart Weitzman: Young Hollywood Cares" collection benefit pioneering research in Ovarian Cancer.

Stuart Weitzman
Another Stuart Weitzman, but this one is entirely different than the last. This peep-toe slingback is made from a multi-color snake print leather with a lot of variation. Every pair looks different than the rest - you will have to come by and see what your pair looks like.

FALL / WINTER 2010 TREND REPORT

Hey everyone! I am finally ready to do the fall trend report with you! I wanted to post it a little sooner but I have been so busy - luckily I have gotten to see a lot of you lately. Check it all out and let me know your thoughts - you know I am always nearby for questions and comments. Swing by and visit or hit me up @ DallasShoeGuy@gmail.com and DallasShoeGuy on TWITTER

THEMES
First of all this entire season has a basis in two strong influences. Classic Feminine Silhouettes are going head to head with the rough and tumble Military Chic.

A military influence doesn't mean you have to go grunge. Have fun with trends and find your favorite way to wear them. A high heel combat boot really changes the look of your skinny jeans with a sweater and it does a great job of making a dress and tights dramatic. A new handbag can always update a look fast too. The right color and details (like a little hardware) can go a long way.

"Classic feminine silhouettes" does not mean watered down fashion. This season is full of classic tailoring that still turns heads. Take this great chance to show off fantastic accessories. Bags right now have a more sturdy structure than the bags of the last several seasons. Think DoctorBag or Attache shapes for your large day bags - save your hobo bags for later.

COLORS
The one theme that has crossed over into all of the styles and into everyone's collections is the power of neutrals. Take all of your classic fall colors (Black, Brown, Camel, Navy) and be sure to add plenty of GREY - TAUPE - OLIVE. Start mixing and matching these colors and I guarantee you will love seeing how much you can stand out in neutrals.

Don't worry - I would not leave you with just neutrals to wear until spring. When you are dying to mix it up and add a punch of color - focus on sumptuous Jewel Tones. These rich colors keep your outfit looking lush.

SHAPES and HEEL HEIGHTS
Everything goes! There are so many options right now. You can find everything from ballet flats to flat riding boots and we also have high heeled over the knee boots. You can find round toes and square toes, there are even points starting to sneak back on the scene. So have fun this season with all of the trends and wear them your way.

Awesome new handbags

Diane Von Furstenberg
If you like a bag that has it all - then here it is. This flap top handbag is built from taupe leather with gold hardware and feathered trim. The body of the bag is a soft woven fabric with dark spangles throughout.
Diane Von Furstenberg
A beautiful rounded clutch. This is a stingray embossed leather with zebra striped print. The topper is a pewter clasp shaped like a small piece of driftwood. There is a shoulder length chain in silver that is optional.

Diane Von Furstenberg
I am sure the material on this bag looks familiar, it is the same as above. This larger version features small gold stud detailing. The bag has plenty of room, a longer strap is enclosed and it features side pockets on both ends. It is a very cool new addition for the year.

Rebecca Minkoff
This bag is fantastic! It is a nice small size for those who don't like to be too weighed down. The coloring and materials are excellent but the details really make this bag. A soft quilting keeps the bag looking rich and the studs are fashioned like the head of a screw. Novel - Useful -Beautiful - Love it

Rebecca Minkoff
This designer is great at blending concepts. This shape of bag is often lost in being overly feminine without much shape or appeal but not the one above. The grommets frame decorative zippers and are laced with a whip-stitch and the cinch top is even better with nice long ties. Inside is a longer strap so you can even wear this bag over the shoulder or cross body style.

DVF by Diane Von Furstenburg

DVF has been doing an awesome job on their shoe and bag lines. They look great standing on the shelf, they are flattering when you put them on your feet and if what I am hearing from A LOT of people is true they all feel great too.

The punched leather on these is pretty unique and I really like the way the straps wrap over the platform. The black is a great fail-safe but I am a bit partial to the luggage color, especially for pairing with greys-blacks-and winter white.

Clogs are always a good time. With pants they carry the look of a boot but in our climate they aren't so hot. This one gives you plenty of extra height but on a wedge you should be plenty comfortable.

WEDGES FOR SPRING TO FALL

Here are two great wedges to get you through the rest of the season and beyond.
Fall is still about chunky and about cut out shoes with tights or leggings. I am a huge fan of this look because it lets you wear a variety of lengths year round.

Tory Burch

This is the new Nelson wedge. Tory has mastered this wedge - it looks great and everyone loves how it feels. I also have it in tan.

DVF
This is the opal wedge. It is great - plain and simple. It is also going to be fun to put a tight under when the time comes. The layered carved out wedge helps it stand out too.
Also available in brown.

The MUST HAVES

Ok it is time to talk shoes and accessory trends for Spring&Summer 2010. I have been giving you all a lot of previews as new merchandise rolls in but now Spring is on our doorstep and it is time to straighten this all out. The trends really seem to be all over the place but I am going to make this simple for everyone.

FIRST lets talk COLOR:
  • NUDES - we love this now, ranging from true nudes, subtle tans, or feminine blush colors. Nudes keep outfits soft - sleek - feminine - chic. And they pair very well with prints.
  • NEUTRALS - namely metallics, different from nudes and made for different outfits. Neutrals keep brightly colorful outfits from being overbearing and conversely take demure outfits to an edgier -younger - fresher place
  • BRIGHTS - it is time to mix in the color. We all spent the past several months in our winter clothes and I don't know about you but I am ready to see some color again soon. One bag in a fantastic color changes your wardrobe and a great pair of colorful sandals makes your white jeans incredible.
SECOND lets talk TEXTURE and SHAPE:
  • TEXTURE - you need it! Cork - Snake - Wood - Linen - Espadrille. Texture always adds interest to your outfit. Taking a neutral and adding different textures makes it even easier to wear (and that works on brights too)
  • SHAPE - A shoe that is a little chunky brings balance to feminine outfits. Skinny jeans look great with WEDGES and with FULL HEELS but so do skirts. Sandals even have slightly THICKER STRAPS than they did last year.
NOW FOR SOME FAVORITES
I have a ton of great options for all of you but these shoes show off some of what I have been telling you

Stuart Weitzman
A great sandal! This shoe has a heavier bottom and thicker straps but the mix of texture keeps it looking soft. The wooden bottom and brass studs keep it more neutral and feminine. Don't be afraid of ankle straps!!

DVF
Bright color! The best part about bold color is they mix so well with so many things. You get to wear a pop of color and have some fun but you don't have to cut back on how wearable your shoes are.

Vera Wang
This is a fantastic metallic neutral! A classic shape is bolstered by a great color and makes it interesting. This is one of the easiest wardrobe options available.

Chloe
AMAZING! This is a fantastic nude. The mix of various tones including blush, nude, and tan all build a wonderful base for your wardrobe options. The extra layers build in texture making this very versatile. Thicker straps and a wedge make them a little more substantial without looking heavy.

Wedges!

Sam Edelman
Fun wrapped wedge with a leopard printed calf hair. You can always count on Sam for something fun.

DVF
This wedge is a fantastic combination of colors-metallics-textures and structure. The straps are multicolor in leather, snake print and suede. The wedge has an eye catching cut away shape that really makes them special.

Via Spiga
Great little espadrille with black leather upper

Tory Burch
Flip flop wedge on a cork base. This is a great way to stay casual but feel put together. Black is something we all need but gold and orange are excellent for a fresh look.
